January often feels ripe with the possibility for positive change- onward and upward momentum; hope for the creation and implementation of a better me. I learned a long time ago that New Year's resolutions don't stick for me, that my discipline fails early and often, and I am left to my own devices (know thyself). I have found that this type of reflective energy feels more powerful around my birthday, wherein I reflect on the previous year, look towards the future, and usually come out with intentions that feel more sustainable.
Enter this blog. For the first time in my life, I have been maintaining a regular morning journaling practice - now going strong for 9 months, and I have been feeling a pull simultaneously towards writing more as well as putting my artist self out there more - both for potential opportunities and for a reason to hold myself accountable to the practice of making/doing/moving. I don't have a particularly specific objective except to write more and share it, to keep my brain engaged, to stay curious, and to be more disciplined about being in a generative creative space. I want to do what I ask of my students - put myself in the vulnerable spaces of being creative, making things, being seen trying, and allowing myself to fail. None of this is new, per se, but there is a feeling of newness in the way I hope to share more openly and frequently.
Thank you in advance for being willing to read some of my writing! I look forward to sharing more about what is upcoming, including a commission for Space_Space Gallery/Boulder Arts Week, choreography for a play at the University of Colorado Boulder, and a foray back into swinging trapeze (for fun!).
Stay tuned <3
